Alhamdulillah, the late Abdur Rashid Engineer was the Founder Chairman of BiMS. He was born in Daudkandi, Cumilla, in 1937. He achieved 4th position in his matriculation exam in 1952. He completed his BSc. Engineering with distinction from Ahsanullah Engineering College, now known as BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology).
Alhamdulillah, the late Abdur Rashid Engineer served as the District Engineer of Cumilla during the Pakistan period. He was a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of the then East Pakistan Provincial Assembly in 1970. During the Liberation War of 1971, he was a significant organiser of the freedom fighters in Cumilla. His contributions and sacrifices during the war are still greatly remembered by the freedom fighters of the region.
Alhamdulillah, in independent Bangladesh, Abdur Rashid Engineer became a Member of the Constituent Assembly (MCA) in 1972. In the national parliamentary election of 1973, he is believed to have defeated Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad, the then Foreign Minister who later became the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Subsequently, Abdur Rashid Engineer was elected as a Member of Parliament three times. He also served as the Minister for Labour and Manpower of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. In 1987, he led the Bangladesh delegation at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) convention held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Alhamdulillah, Abdur Rashid Engineer was the Founder Chairman of BiMS when it was established in 2004. He passed away on January 20, 2006, at the age of 69. (May ALLAH forgive his sins and grant him success in the afterlife as well - Ameen).
